My Midsummer Night's Birthday Party

April 10, 2001 was my fifteenth birthday (yay!). My dear fictional friends threw me a surprise party, and as a gift, performed A Midsummer Night's Dream for me. :-) Can you believe that? They performed a parody without me threatening them with slow, painful death! Shocking! Anyway, it turned out, um, amateur, but I appreciated the gesture. I mean, it's the thought that counts, right? Here was their cast listing:

Theseus: Javert
Hippolyta: Fantine
Egeus: Valjean
Hermia: Cosette
Helena: Eponine
Lysander: Enjolras
Demetrius: Marius
Oberon: Thénardier
Titania: Mme. Thénardier
Puck [Robin Goodfellow]: Gavroche
Peaseblossom: Brujon
Cobweb: Babet
Moth: Claquesous
Mustardseed: Montparnasse
Nick Bottom: Courfeyrac
Peter Quince: Combeferre
Snug the Joiner: Bahorel
Snout the Tinker: Feuilly
Flute the Bellows-mender: Prouvaire
Starveling the Tailor: Joly
Philostrate: Fauchelevent

It was really very cute...you kinda had to be there...I did not take the time to record this performance for posterity, but Combeferre did have his camera, so he should be putting up some of his pictures soon, I hope...Anyway, I had a wonderful birthday, thanks to my little darlings (who have now inspired me to write even more parodies than before ;-)).

Come on back to my room...
Come on home...

BTW, the painting at the top of this page, titled Titania Sleeps in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", was painted by a certain Frank Cadogan Cowper in 1928. Cool, ain't it?
